FAQ

HOW ARE THE RECORDS MADE?

Our records are cut on an analog German made lathe with a diamond stylus, guided by hand in real-time, one at a time.  Our record jackets are printed on thick 350gsm card and folded/glued by hand.

WHAT IS THE SOUND QUALITY LIKE?

If the tracks are mastered for vinyl then the audio on our records is comparable in quality to a factory pressed record.  Un-mastered tracks can still sound good but may differ slightly more from the source audio.  Due to the individual nature of the process every single record will have very small variations and slightly more audible surface noise than pressed records.  We cut directly to vinyl blanks which are very resilient and great for club use or scratching and will last as many plays as a factory pressed record.

DOES MY AUDIO SOURCE HAVE TO BE MASTERED FOR VINYL?

Digital files of any kind can be cut to vinyl however higher quality files with tracks that are mastered for the medium yield the best results.  The goal is to transfer the source audio as accurately as possible and having the tracks properly mastered will help with this.

HOW MANY RECORDS CAN I ORDER?

We offer a maximum order of 50 copies per order.  No minimums.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY ORDER?

Turnaround depends on how many outstanding orders there currently are.  We will be able to give you an approximate completion date upon placing an order and we are usually able to work with clients’ specific deadlines.  Generally, 1 or 2-offs can be fulfilled within 7-10 days whereas larger orders can take 3-8 weeks depending on the size and complexity of the job.  Rush orders may be possible for an additional fee.

SHIPPING?

Orders can be shipped within Canada and internationally. Costs will vary depending on the size and weight of your order.

Is there any audio that can not be cut?

Higher quality audio yields better results.  We recommend 24 bit 48kHz.  More compressed tracks will cut but will be less of a seamless transfer.  The degradation on compressed formats like MP3s (especially high-frequency sibilance) will often translate as noise on vinyl.

Mixtape style records are capped at 2 copies. We also reserve the right to refuse cutting services to music which contains offensive content.

Can my audio exceed 18 minutes per side?

Depends on the type of music and the intention with the record.
Sound occupies physical space on a vinyl disc.  The louder and bassier the audio content, the more space it will take up on the disc.  This means the longer your sides are, the quieter they will need to be cut which will result in a lower noise-floor to signal ratio and a less-dynamic cut over all.  We find 18 minutes per side to be a sweet spot where we can maintain decent volume while fitting a full-length recording.  If you want to play your record in a club or on a big sound system we recommend no longer than 10 minutes per side to compete with 12" club pressings.
If we decide it's possible to squeeze your 40 minute album on a 12" then an additional $1 per additional minute will be charged.

Can I place my order through your website?

For orders of 1 or 2  12" LPs you can fill out the order form on the 'Order' page.
For orders of 3 or more or for other formats including 10", 7" and 5" send us an email and we will send you back a quote and potential timeline.
